Xiaomi could be changing its usual flagship launch strategy in China this year, with the Xiaomi 18 series reportedly set to arrive in two separate waves. According to leakster Digital Chat Station, the standard Xiaomi 18 will not debut alongside its Pro siblings, but instead launch in December 2026.
This would mark a significant departure from Xiaomi’s usual approach, as the company has historically unveiled its flagship models together at the same event. Spacing out the launches could give each model more time in the spotlight.
Interestingly, Xiaomi would not be the only major smartphone maker apparently moving towards a staggered flagship launch. Apple is also rumoured to be considering a similar strategy for its upcoming iPhone 18 lineup, with the Pro and Ultra models potentially debuting first next month while the standard models, along with a new-generation iPhone Air, could follow in early 2027.
Xiaomi 18 Pro In September
Xiaomi is reportedly preparing to launch the Xiaomi 18 Pro series in China this September. Additionally, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit is scheduled to take place from 22 to 24 September, where the company is expected to officially introduce its next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 flagship chipset.
According to recent reports, Xiaomi could then launch the Xiaomi 18 Pro series on 28 or 29 September, just days after Qualcomm’s announcement. This would allow the company to position the new phones among the first devices powered by the upcoming flagship chip.
Leaked renders of the Xiaomi 18 Pro have shown a design that remains broadly familiar to the current generation, while making some changes to the camera module. The Pro models are also expected to retain the distinctive rear display, which is integrated into the camera module.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is expected to include multiple models, although their exact specifications remain unconfirmed. The phones are also expected to be among Xiaomi’s first devices to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, alongside other flagship-grade hardware and a new dedicated AI button.
What About The Xiaomi 18 Ultra?
The more interesting question is where the Xiaomi 18 Ultra fits into all this. Earlier reports suggested that Xiaomi may have cancelled the Ultra model altogether due to rising costs, potentially leaving the Pro series as the top-end offerings in the Xiaomi 18 family.
For now, the Xiaomi 18 series’ launch schedule remains unofficial and it is unclear whether the company will also practice this staggered approach for its global releases. With September already drawing closer, however, we may not have to wait much longer before Xiaomi provides some clarity on its plans.
