Google is expected to unveil its latest lineup of Pixel devices during its Made by Google event on 12 August. Besides the Pixel smartphones and wearables, a recent leak suggests that the company could also introduce its first Bluetooth tracker, reportedly called the Pixel Tag, at the event. Rumours online also claim that the device will share the same price point as Apple’s AirTag, at least in Europe.
Last week, 9to5Google shared what appeared to be details of the Pixel Tag alongside supposed renders of the device. Based on the image, the tracker features an oblong design with Google’s logo in the centre, alongside a small grille at the bottom that is believed to house a built-in speaker. Earlier reports suggested that the Pixel Tag could retail for EUR39.99 (~RM188), but a newer report from Dealabs claims otherwise.
According to Dealabs, the upcoming tracker will retail for EUR34.99 (~RM165). If accurate, this would put the Pixel Tag at the same price as Apple’s AirTag, at least in France. The publication also claims that the tracker will only be available in a single grey colourway, dubbed Light Fog.
If we’re to speculate, Google could maintain a similar pricing strategy across other markets. For those curious, Apple’s AirTag currently retails for RM129 in Malaysia. However, we’d like to stress that this remains purely our own speculation. While Google may match Apple’s pricing, we still do not know whether the Pixel Tag will offer the same features, such as Ultra Wideband (UWB) support.
It’s worth noting that Google has yet to officially announce the device, leaving many other details under wraps. As such, take all the details we’ve discussed so far with a grain of salt. That said, we’re less than a week away from the upcoming Made by Google event, so we’ll likely learn more about the tracker then.
