The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra debuted earlier this year with a new Privacy Display feature, which serves to keep prying eyes from viewing the contents of the user’s screen. Following the device’s debut, leaksters claimed that other Android phone makers were developing their own take on the feature. Now, a new leak has revealed what Xiaomi’s version will look like.
In an X post, Kacper Skrzypek revealed screenshots and a screen recording showing how it will work. The feature, known as Smart Privacy Display, will work a lot like Samsung’s version. There seems to be a hardware component, so it’s likely that older Xiaomi phones will not have access to it.
Beyond that, users will apparently be able to create separate groups and add multiple apps to these groups. Essentially, this will let users have different privacy display settings for each group. Additionally, the company seems to be adding an automatic setting, so the device will be able to enable the feature when certain apps or pages are opened without manual intervention. Some examples include sensitive pages like password entry, payment pages, money transfers, and messages.
Furthermore, the company will supposedly introduce a gaze detection feature. This pretty much does what it says on the tin. The phone will leverage its front cameras to “capture images and detect faces” to determine whether someone else is looking at the screen. The system will then alert the user that someone else is peeking at their device.
For now, it’s unclear what this will look like in action. The leakster noted that he was unable to get the feature to work on his device, either due to missing code or the hardware requirements. This feature will likely launch with the upcoming flagship phones, though not for all models in the lineup. The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to get it, while the base version will probably miss out.
