At this point, you’ve probably heard that Insta360 is planning to launch a follow-up to last year’s X5. The X6 was the star of multiple leaks over the course of July, revealing almost all there is to know about the action camera. Now, the brand has confirmed the launch date for the device, and it’s fairly soon.
The Insta360 X6 is set to make its official debut next week, on 12 August 2026 at 9 AM EDT. Taking the time difference into account, that’s 9 PM on our side of the globe.
Aside from revealing the launch date, the company shared a promotional video, confirming a few of the device’s details. Based on this teaser, the camera will indeed feature a shorter and wider body. Other than that, the video mentioned “1-inch imaging”, although it did not offer any substantial information in terms of specifications. The brand is likely saving these details for the actual launch.
In the meantime, the rumour mill has filled in the blanks. According to the leaks so far, the camera will feature larger 1/1.1-inch image sensors. The device will reportedly be capable of capturing 8K footage at 30fps in full 360-degree mode. It is also said to feature a new PureVideo mode for improved low-light recording, as well as a swappable lens system called Replaceable Lenses 2.0.
Beyond that, the camera will supposedly support 11K time-lapse recording, 10-bit 360-degree video, Dolby Vision, and I-Log. It will also apparently be able to snap 42MP photos, or 120MP images in 360-degree mode. Other rumoured features include a battery life of 140 minutes, as well as a waterproof housing that allows for dives up to 20m. The device could also ship with accessories like a 114cm invisible selfie stick and a silicone lens cap.
It goes without saying that the leaks are to be taken with a grain of salt, since the veracity of the information is unverified. In any case, it won’t be a long wait until all is revealed.
