Amazfit has officially launched its latest smartwatch, the T-Rex Dual Solar, globally. While the detailed leaks that appeared earlier this week left little to the imagination, we now have the full confirmation, along with some additional details that were not included in the leaks.
For those living under a rock, this is the company’s first AMOLED smartwatch with dual-sided solar charging, with one solar panel on the front and another on the rear. The device is designed for extended outdoor adventures where users may not have immediate access to electricity or a conventional power outlet.
Specs
Starting things off, the wearable features a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, which is protected by sapphire glass. The body, meanwhile, features a Grade 5 titanium bezel for added durability and has a 10 ATM water resistance rating. The chassis also houses a built-in flashlight with multiple brightness levels, a red-light mode, and a Boost Mode for outdoor use at night.
Powering the device is a 660mAh battery, which offers up to 25 days of battery life under typical usage, according to Amazfit. This drops to up to 41 hours when using its Accuracy GPS mode continuously.
As for the solar charging system, Amazfit says exposing the front solar panel to 50,000 lux of light for three hours a day can extend battery life to up to 34 days under typical usage. Using the larger rear solar panel under the same conditions can push this figure to up to 51 days. Meanwhile, enabling Outdoor Extreme Mode with the rear solar panel can deliver up to 180 days of battery life under the company’s specified solar conditions.
Training, Tracking, And Navigation
Other than that, theT-Rex Dual Solar also offers a wide range of navigation and training features. Right out of the box, the device comes with preloaded full-colour maps, route planning, and slope and elevation information for climbs. Users can also broadcast their real-time location to selected contacts via the LiveShare feature.
The T-Rex Dual Solar can store up to 100 routes, while users can also create new routes directly on the watch without needing a phone. If they stray off the planned route, the device can automatically recalculate and provide a new route to help them get back on track.
The T-Rex Dual Solar also comes with a range of training tools, including HybridCharge, which provides insights into training load, recovery, and daily strain. It supports training plans and regimens from TrainingPeaks, Runna, and Intervals.icu, while completed workouts can be synced to Strava. Additionally, Amazfit says users who own the Helio Strap can integrate its data into the Zepp app for a more comprehensive view of their recovery.
As for health tracking, the wearable covers the usual features such as heart rate, blood-oxygen saturation, stress levels, and skin temperature, among others. The T-Rex Dual Solar also supports more than 180 sports modes.
Pricing And Availability
As mentioned earlier, Amazfit has officially launched the T-Rex Dual Solar globally. It is currently available for purchase in the US for US$649.99 (~RM2,651). Unfortunately, Amazfit Malaysia has yet to announce its local availability, let alone its price. We will update this article if and when the company announces any details regarding its Malaysian launch.
