You know Sony’s audio products from a variety of headphones, TWS buds and speakers. And while new ones are not released with the same frequency, the company does do IEMs as well. A new pair has recently been added to the catalogue, and it’s called the IER-M500. It’s also surprisingly modestly priced, compared to the other IEMs that the company makes, at least.
The Sony IER-M500 features a 5mm dynamic driver within a fully sealed acoustic chamber on each side. This, as the company notes, gives the IEMs the brand’s signature deep bass, as well as “clear vocals and detailed highs”. It also supports a frequency response range of between 10 and 40,000 Hz, and comes with a pretty long 1.6m cable. Without the cable connected, the pair weighs in at a very light 6.9g. Pretty straightforward on the spec sheet side of things.
That being said, the highlight of the Sony IER-M500 is the many options for ear tips and fitting supporters. More specifically, these IEMs come with four sizes of the former and five sizes of the latter, ensuring that there will be one combination that suits your ears in terms of fit and noise isolation. As you’d expect from IEMs, these come with ear hangers to loop the cable over the top of your ears, but as an added bonus, there’s a cable clip for even better cable security.
Sony claims that the IER-M500 is “easy to wear – even in low light”, but this looks to apply the most to one of the three colour variations. On that note, these IEMs come in “Clear”, “Black”, and “Red&Blue” colour options. Despite the name of the first option, they are all translucent to some degree, and it’s that last colour option that is the easiest to tell left from right. It is now available with an asking price of RM499, which, as mentioned, is very accessible compared to the other IEMs that the company makes.
