After announcing the ULT Tower 9AC earlier this year, Sony expands the ULT POWER SOUND collection in Malaysia with two new speakers. The speakers in question are the ULT TOWER 7 and the ULT TOWER 5. A third speaker, the ULT TOWER MAX, was supposed to be part of the collection, but that model has yet to arrive in the country.
Shared Features
Both speakers feature large circular woofers, large-capacity speaker cabinets, and ULT DUCT, which allows them to deliver stronger and deeper bass compared to their predecessors. Sony also tuned the speakers to provide clearer vocals, or so it says in the press release. The two speakers offer numerous connection ports, including XLR, RCA, and USB-C, which means that they can easily link up with any modern DJ hardware or karaoke with the optional ULTMIC1.
The ULT TOWER 7 and the ULT TOWER 5 feature a Sony’s ULT button. This button gives users up to four EQ choices to choose from to suit their preferred sound profile. There is ULT1, which provides a deep base that “makes your heart tremble”; ULT2 takes things a step further by delivering “body-to-shaking bass” with strong sound pressure; next is FLAT, which produces a “true-to-source” listening experience; and LIVE recreates the typical sound you get in an in-person performance.
Another neat trick these new speakers have is the new Party Chain feature. With it, users can link up the two speakers wirelessly via Bluetooth Auracast. The press release notes that the feature works with multiple compatible Sony speakers; once paired, it will synchronise both the music and the lighting effect.
ULT Tower 7
According to Sony, the ULT TOWER 7 combines up to 420W output with 360-degree Party Sound. The latter, as the name suggests, projects the sound all around the speaker, letting people hear the song from virtually any position around the speaker.
In terms of battery, Sony says that the device is good for up to 30 hours of playback. Unfortunately, the company did not specify how long it will take for the speaker to reach full charge.
Other details include a handle and casters for a more comfortable grip while carrying it. The ULT TOWER 7 also comes with upgraded wheels and wide treads for easier transportation. The body offers IP4X while it’s in a vertical position. Unfortunately, while the device is protected against splashes, it will not last long against heavy rain or complete submersion.
ULT TOWER 5
Next we have the ULT TOWER 5, which is effectively a smaller version of the ULT TOWER 7. With that in mind, it comes with a smaller but still respectable 300W maximum output. For this speaker in particular, Sony says that it has a maximum battery life of up to 20 hours.
This model has the same IPX4 protection while it is upright. One of the major differences between the two is that the ULT TOWER 5 doesn’t come with wheels. As such, users need to make do with the included carrying handles.
Pricing
The ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 are now available in Malaysia. They are priced at RM2,999 and RM2,199, respectively. However, it’s worth noting that the company is offering a special discount for the speakers for a limited time.
In celebration of the new products’ launch, the company is offering a significant discount on both speakers. According to the press release, Sony is offering RM600 off the ULT TOWER 7, which drops the price to RM2,399. Meanwhile, the ULT TOWER 5 will receive a RM700 discount, lowering its price to RM1,499.
