Back in April of last year, Taiwanese publisher Justdan brought the Capcom pop-up store to LaLaport Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur, running for a short four days. Earlier this year, a second one popped up, pun not intended, at AEON Mall Tebrau City, Johor Bahru. This one lasted just under a week. Now, the company has announced that it is bringing the Capcom pop-up store back to LaLaport Bukit Bintang, and this time lasting nearly a quarter of a year.
More specifically, the pop-up store will start on 24 September, and will run all the way until 27 December. The company says that this time, it will be happening within the ACG Base section of LaLaport Bukit Bintang, and that the much longer duration serves two purposes. The first is to make it easier for those living outside of Kuala Lumpur to plan their trip and visit the pop-up. The second is that it “allows the store to gradually roll out a wide range of official Capcom merchandise, updating the product line-up regularly throughout the event period”.
A regularly updating product line-up suggests that as new things come in, old things may get pushed out. On one hand, this gets locals to return every once in a while, but on the other, out-of-towners will only see the line-up of the day, week, or month, depending on the update frequency.
Either way, there’s a strong incentive to visit during certain windows of the Capcom pop-up’s duration. Justdan says that this time – and for the first time ever – there will be Malaysia-exclusive merch, and as you’d expect, these will be in limited quantities. The first is a limited-edition T-shirt, but with an “oversized, relaxed fit”, and this will be available from opening day onwards. Then there’s “a lightweight and portable eco-friendly tote bag” during “the mid-event period”. The company did not share the starting date for this, but said instead that the date will be announced separately via official social media channels.
Finally, the company says that purchases of RM100 or more at the pop-up store will earn you a complimentary Capcom Pop-Up Store Malaysia postcard. This, like the T-shirt and tote bag, is only available while stocks last. To reiterate, the pop-up will be at the ACG Base section of LaLaport Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur from 24 September to 27 December.
