Xiaomi is finally taking its automotive business outside of China, with Europe set to be the first international market for its electric vehicles (EV). At IFA Berlin 2026, Xiaomi Auto announced that it will enter Germany and other European markets in 2027, while signing Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with eight German automotive dealer groups to begin establishing its sales and service network.
The eight groups are Ernst Dello, Autohaus Dinnebier, Emil Frey Germany, Fett & Wirtz Automobile, Hahn Automobile, LUEG Mobility, Penske-Jacobs Innovation and SPT Avior. They are established names in Germany and the wider European automotive retail industry, with Emil Frey being one of the largest dealer groups on the continent. The MoUs are currently non-binding, and Xiaomi has yet to reveal details such as the number of dealerships, sales territories, pricing or the specific models that will be offered.
SU7 And YU7 Are The Likely Starting Point
While Xiaomi has not confirmed its European line-up, the most obvious candidates are its SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV. The company could also potentially bring their higher-performance Ultra variants to Europe, although this remains unconfirmed.
Xiaomi has already built up considerable momentum in China since launching its first EV, the SU7, in 2024. The company says it has now delivered more than 700,000 vehicles domestically, giving it a sizeable customer base ahead of its international push.
The Chinese tech giant has also been using its performance credentials to raise the profile of its cars, including setting records at the Nürburgring with its high-performance models. Beyond its existing EV range, Xiaomi recently introduced the SkyNomad N70 and N90 extended-range electric SUVs in China, although there is no indication yet that these will be part of the European launch line-up.
Xiaomi says it plans to continue working with more European dealers as it prepares for the 2027 launch. Its European operations are also being supported by a research and development centre in Munich, with local partnerships expected to play a key role in establishing its sales and after-sales infrastructure.
Global Expansion Has Been In The Works
The European announcement is not entirely unexpected. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said last year that the company’s cars would begin entering global markets from 2027, with the company at the time still focused on meeting strong demand in China.
Closer to home, Xiaomi recently appeared to be laying the groundwork for a Malaysian automotive operation. A Country Manager (Malaysia) vacancy posted on LinkedIn called for someone to develop Xiaomi Auto’s local business strategy, work with agencies including MITI, MIDA, MARii and Customs, and build sales, retail and after-sales networks. Xiaomi still has not officially announced plans to sell its EVs here, but the job listing suggests Malaysia could eventually form part of its broader international expansion.
