Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Tab S12 series sometime soon. Ahead of the unveiling, both models in the upcoming lineup have popped up in a few leaks. Last week, the tablets were seen on the Bluetooth SIG website. And now, the products have appeared on the Google Play Console list of supported devices.
Based on these listings, the series will comprise two models: the Galaxy Tab S12+, and the fancier Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. The Tab S12+ has the codename “gts12pwifi” and the model number SM-X840 for the WiFi version. Meanwhile, the 5G configuration bears the codename “gts12p” and is linked to the model designations SM-X846B, SM-X846E, SM-X846N, and SM-X848U. Of course, the different numbers denote the regional variants.
Like its sibling, the higher-end Tab S12 Ultra will come in WiFi and 5G configurations. The former bears the codename “gts12uwifi” and the model number SM-X940. As for the latter, it gets the “gts12u” codename and the designations SM-X946B and SM-X946N.
Beyond these details, the listings don’t offer much information on the devices. That said, there have been a few rumours regarding the Ultra model. Apparently, it will look almost identical to its predecessor, with the only upgrade coming in the form of a new processor. As per these leaks, the tablet will pack a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 SoC.
As for the other specifications, the tablet is expected to retain the 14.6-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. The device is also rumoured to feature a 11,600mAh battery with 45W charging, a 12MP front camera, 12GB of RAM, and at least 256GB of storage. Meanwhile, the Tab S12+ will reportedly sport a 12.4-inch screen and a 10,600mAh battery. It will also allegedly come with a Dimensity 9500 chipset.
If the leaks prove accurate, then there may not be any major upgrades in the cards, chip notwithstanding. However, leaks are by no means an official source of information, so it’s best to withhold judgement until the launch. Speaking of which, Samsung has yet to reveal a release date, although it has confirmed that the tablets are coming. Based on the company’s track record, though, they might debut next month. In any case, their presence on the database suggests that a launch is close at hand.
