Earlier this year, Huawei unveiled the Pura X Max in China, kicking off the wide-screen foldable revival. It seems that the company is not quite done with smartphones with wide screens, though. The brand is reportedly planning to release a non-folding candybar phone sometime soon.
Rumours of a Huawei handset with a 16:10 screen aspect ratio actually emerged all the way back in February. At the time, it was said to be more like the original Pura X, rather than the Pura X Max. Then, in the months that followed, more details on this supposed device began circulating. As per these leaks, the phone will feature a Kirin 9-series chipset, although no specific processor has been named thus far. Beyond that, the handset is said to pack a battery with a capacity of at least 7,000mAh.
On the imaging end, the device could feature a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor. This will reportedly be accompanied by a 50MP periscope telephoto lens. The phone could also feature a multispectral lens.
Other than that, though, not much else is known about the phone. Its name is also uncertain, although it is expected to belong to the Pura series. Moreover, it may launch alongside the Mate 90 series and the Mate XT2 triple-panel foldable in September. At the moment, no exact launch date has been revealed.
Of course, it goes without saying that these are still rumours at this point. So far, the phone maker has yet to disclose any details on this device.
Curiously, Huawei is not the only brand rumoured to be exploring wide-screen smartphones. Apparently, OPPO is also looking to launch a similar device. This phone is rumoured to feature either a 6.3-inch or 6.4-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It could also come with a triple rear camera setup with a periscope telephoto lens. This device will supposedly launch sometime next year. Regardless, we will have to wait and see if these leaks are indeed accurate.
