As promised by chairman Richard Yu last week, Huawei has unveiled its latest flip phone in China. The company has dropped the Pocket branding, renaming the device as the Pura X. While still a flip phone, the Pura X takes a different approach compared to its predecessors.

A key highlight is its 6.3-inch internal display, featuring a 16:10 aspect ratio—a first for clamshell foldables. This design gives it a more tablet-like appearance, though smaller than devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold or OPPO Find N series. The internal screen has a resolution of 2120 x 1320 pixels, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits.

On the front cover, the Pura X features a 3.5-inch external LTPO display with a 1:1 aspect ratio, 980 x 980 px resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 2,500 nits peak brightness. Above it is a vertical camera array, details of which follow. Notably, the phone’s default orientation when folded has its sides facing up and down—an unconventional approach for flip-style foldables.

Huawei has not disclosed the chipset, but the device starts with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It is powered by a 4,270mAh battery with 66W wired and 44W wireless charging support. On the software side, the Pura X runs HarmonyOS 5 with DeepSeek-R1 integration.

For imaging, the phone is equipped with a triple-camera setup: a 50MP primary sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide, and an 8MP telephoto. While there is a selfie camera on the internal display, its specifications have not been disclosed.

The Huawei Pura X starts at CNY7,499 (~RM4,579) in China and is available in gray, white, black, and two triple-tone colourways. The company has yet to confirm international availability.
