The launch of Apple’s MacBook Neo shook the market up in a significant way. Not only did it make the bitten fruit company’s competitors reconsider their strategies, but it also proved that customers still have an appetite for a humble budget laptop. However, if a Windows Latest report is to be believed, the MacBook Neo will see some competition in the form of the recently leaked Lenovo IdeaPad Vibe.
Earlier this week, Windows Latest managed to obtain exclusive images and a few internal details of Lenovo’s upcoming budget laptop. In its report, the publication highlighted how “the whole PC ecosystem was discussing how to compete with it” and that Apple “brought colour and build quality to a price range that had mostly been ignored,” which it seems that Lenovo is trying to replicate.
Based on the leaked images, the IdeaPad Vibe will come in seven different colours. Hues range from a pale pink, mustard yellow, terracotta brown, mint teal, silver, navy blue, to sage green. Each colourway carries a glossy Lenovo logo at the middle of the lid.
Though the leaked laptop takes a minimalist approach to its design, that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything visually interesting about it. For starters, it appears to have a reverse notch at the centre of the lid for easy opening and closing. The notch also houses the webcam with an included privacy shutter.
According to Windows Latest, regardless of the chosen colourway, the IdeaPad Vibe will have a dark grey keyboard with white key legends. To the sides of the keyboard are speaker grilles, and just below it is a large trackpad.
In terms of practicality, it seems that the Lenovo IdeaPad Vibe has a lot more ports when compared to the MacBook Neo, which only had two USB-A ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Based on the images, the right side of the upcoming computer has two USB-A ports and a power button with a status LED. Meanwhile, the left side has an HDMI port, two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, and a microSD slot.
Beyond its external details, Windows Latest reports that the IdeaPad Vibe will have at least two different chip options for customers to choose from. The news outlet says that, based on the file names, the portable computer may come with an AMD processor or Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. However, the exact models have not been revealed.
Per the publication, the leak materials suggest that Lenovo plans to use the same basic chassis across AMD x86 and Snapdragon ARM configurations. This also extends to the available colours. Other than that, the device’s specs aren’t listed.
At the time of writing, Lenovo has not officially announced the IdeaPad Vibe, nor has it shared its specifications, pricing, or release date in the wake of this report. As a result, it’s best to take these details with a grain of salt.
However, if true, it could once again shake the market, as consumers surprisingly respond to colour choices in addition to lower price points and functionality. That said, the timing is a little unfortunate, as Microsoft has just raised licensing fees for Windows OEMs, which might make the upcoming laptop less budget-friendly.
