Rumours of a major collaboration between OPPO and vivo on a new imaging product have been firmly shut down. Both smartphone brands have denied reports claiming they had finalised a strategic partnership to jointly develop and launch a pocket gimbal camera using shared imaging technology.
In statements to Nandu Bay Finance, as reported by ITHome, OPPO and vivo said that no joint research and development agreement has been reached between the two companies. They also said there are currently no plans to jointly launch a product of this nature.
The rumour emerged after reports claimed that the two brands were working on a shared pocket gimbal camera, potentially using the same core imaging technology. The reports also suggested that the devices could share a 200MP camera sensor, although neither company has confirmed such details.
Independent Developments
The speculation is particularly interesting because both companies are reportedly developing their own entries into the increasingly competitive pocket gimbal camera market, which is currently dominated by products such as DJI’s Osmo Pocket series.
Vivo is the only one of the two to have officially confirmed such a project. The company said earlier this year that it started an internal Vlog camera project at the end of 2025, with a team of more than 200 people working on the device.
OPPO, meanwhile, has also reportedly started developing its own vlogging camera, although the company has not officially confirmed the project. Previous reports have claimed that it could launch in the fourth quarter of 2026, with leaked details suggesting it could share some similarities with vivo’s effort.
BBK Electronics Association
With both brands seemingly working on similar products at around the same time, speculation about a formal Oppo-vivo collaboration was perhaps inevitable. Both companies are both part of China’s BBK Electronics, although the two brands have historically operated independently rather than simply rebadging each other’s products.
They may share certain underlying technologies or resources as part of the wider corporate group, but outright rebadged devices are more commonly seen between each brand and its respective subsidiaries. Realme, for example, operates under OPPO, while iQOO is a subsidiary of vivo.
What To Expect From OPPO And vivo’s Vlogging Cameras?
For now, vivo is the only one of the two to have officially confirmed that it is developing a dedicated vlogging camera. If both companies eventually bring their respective products to market, it will be interesting to see how their approaches differ and what each can offer consumers beyond the smartphone cameras they already produce.
Unfortunately, neither brand has provided further details about its respective camera plans at this point. So, for now, any specifications or similarities between the two devices should be treated as speculation until OPPO and vivo are ready to reveal more.
