Xiaomi sub-brand REDMI has launched a selection of new smartphones for the local market. In addition to the newest members of its main numbered series, the company has announced the REDMI A7. The device is the more basic counterpart to the A7 Pro, which debuted back in April.
Naturally, as an entry-level handset, the A7 prioritises affordability over fancy features. Visually, it largely resembles its predecessor, with a body measuring 8.26mm thick and weighing 193g. It also doesn’t differ much from the REDMI A5 in terms of specifications, with the only notable distinction being its imaging system.

The device retains the 6.88-inch LCD display from the last generation. This screen offers a 1,640 x 720 pixel resolution, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and 450 nits of typical brightness. Additionally, the panel incorporates Wet Touch Technology, allowing it to be used with damp hands. For security, the phone comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock.
Under the hood, the REDMI A7 packs a Unisoc T7250 chipset, which is the same processor equipped on its fancier sibling. This gets paired with a modest 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Meanwhile, a 5,200mAh battery keeps the lights on. This cell supports 15W wired charging. On the connectivity end, the device supports 4G and WiFi 5.

For imaging, the phone sports a single 13MP 1/3.06-inch camera with an f/2.2 aperture on the rear. This is a notable change from its precursor, which launched with a 32MP 1/3.6-inch lens instead. On the other hand, the new model keeps the same 8MP selfie snapper.
The REDMI A7 comes in three finishes: Black, Sky Blue, and Orchid Purple. Despite announcing it now, the company has not made the handset available for purchase just yet. Customers will only be able to get the phone from 15 September 2026 onwards. As usual, the device will be available through Xiaomi’s physical stores, the Mi online store, as well as the brand’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop.
As for pricing, the smartphone will set you back RM469. Prospective buyers may notice that this is quite a bit pricier compared to the previous generation. For reference, the A5 debuted with 3GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB configurations, priced at RM299 and RM349 respectively. At this point, though, it shouldn’t be surprising to find that the memory crisis has done a number on the budget segment.
