The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has denied a viral claim that all Malaysians aged 18 and above will receive a one-off RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) payment in conjunction with the upcoming National Day. The ministry said the poster circulating online making the claim is false and that no such payment has been officially announced.
In a social media post, MOF urged the public not to share the purported announcement. It stressed that members of the public should only rely on verified information published through the ministry’s official channels to avoid spreading false information that could mislead the public.
As such, there are currently no official plans for another nationwide SARA aid distribution this year. While the government did announce a similar distribution in conjunction with last year’s National Day, there is currently no indication that the initiative will be repeated this year.
To recap, the last one-off RM100 SARA aid for Malaysians aged 18 and above was distributed on 9 February 2026. The allocation was credited directly to eligible recipients’ MyKad and could be used to purchase essential items at participating merchants, with frozen food subsequently added to the list of eligible purchases.
For this particular rollout, the funds will remain available for eligible recipients to spend until the end of 2026. This means that while the aid was distributed earlier this year, eligible recipients can still use their remaining balance throughout the year.
More recently, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in July that the government is considering increasing assistance under both Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and SARA if economic conditions permit. The matter was discussed with Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican and is expected to be considered as part of this year’s Budget tabling.
