Like many countries embracing the electric vehicle revolution, Indonesia has joined the movement with the launch of its homegrown EV brand, Aletra. The brand’s inaugural model, the fully electric Aletra L8 MPV, has officially entered production at PT Handal Indonesia Motor’s manufacturing facility in West Java.
Aletra is a new Indonesian electric vehicle (EV) brand established through a collaboration between PT Aletra Mobil Nusantara and Livan Auto, a subsidiary of China’s Geely Group. Launched in late 2024, Aletra aims to offer EVs tailored to the Indonesian market, focusing on right-hand drive vehicles suitable for local driving conditions.
The Aletra L8 draws its inspiration from the Livan Maple 80V L, which is essentially an electric version of the Geely Jiaji. However, according to Autonetmagz, Aletra’s R&D team has gone beyond simple rebadging—undertaking significant modifications, including the conversion from left- to right-hand-drive and various interior and exterior adjustments tailored to suit the preferences of Indonesian consumers.
In term of design, although there are some cues from the Livian Maple 80V L, the L8 features an a slightly revised face and 18-iich alloy wheels with a new design. It also comes with an uprated twin-compressor air-con.
Inside the MPV, it has seven-inch TFT full-LCD combination instrument panel and a 12.4 inch touch screen infotainment system suited with wireless ACCP. Other features include a panoramic roof, 72-colour ambient lighting, front sats that can adjusted electrically six ways and 50W wireless charges.
The seven-seater Aletra L8 features a 2-2-3 seating configuration and measures 4,812 mm in length—14 mm shorter than the Geely Jiaji L—along with a width of 1,909 mm and a height of 1,699 mm. It rides on a 2,807 mm wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of over 160 mm, comparable to the Jiaji.
However, its boot capacity is slightly smaller at 459 litres, likely due to the EV battery placement beneath the floor, compared to the Jiaji L’s 513 litres. The suspension setup mirrors that of the Geely, with MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link system at the rear.
The Aletra L8 MPV is available in two powertrain variants. The base model is equipped with a 50.4 kWh LFP battery, delivering a CLTC-rated range of 431 km. The higher-spec L8s features a 64.74 kWh short-blade bulletproof battery, extending the range to 540 km on the same cycle. Both versions are powered by a 163 PS, 240 Nm electric motor, allowing the MPV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds, with a top speed of 160 km/h.
As for price, the L8 costs IDR 468 million (~RM121,457). The car is also expected to be available in other countries, though there are not much details regarding this at the moment.
