The GAC M8 plug-in hybrid made its first public appearance at the ongoing Malaysia Auto Show (MAS 2025) after it was previewed at the end of last year. Currently, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) MPV is open for booking and will be launched with an estimated starting price of RM333,000.

The GAC M8 comes in two variants: Premium and Premium Luxury. It has a wheelbase of 3,070 mm and measures 5,212 mm long, 1,893 mm wide and 1,823 mm tall. Moreover, according to the automaker, this will be the first-ever PHEV MPV to debut in the Malaysian market.

In terms of design, the M8 seems to have taken inspiration from the Alphard, starting at the front with the full-height grille. It also features L-shaped headlights and taillights, which make it rugged and fierce-looking. Moreover, it also has touches of chrome on the window lines, bumpers and side skirts.

Seven people can fit inside the M8 PHEV, including two captain’s chairs in the second row with built-in ottomans, five-inch screens in the armrests, a 15.6-inch roof monitor, and massaging, memory, and ventilation features in addition to power adjustability. As for the driver’s cockpit, it is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 14.6-inch infotainment system. Additionally, a 16-speaker Yamaha sound system provides music output.

Front of the M8 PHEV MPV

A 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190PS and 300Nm of torque powers the GAC M8 PHEV. This is coupled with a motor that generates 182PS and 300Nm using a 25.57kWh battery. The electric driveline uses a two-speed hybrid gearbox to provide a combined output of 373PS and 630Nm. Therefore, it will take 8.8 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/h.

As for range, the automaker claims that the MPV can do 1,038 km with a full tank and a full charge. However, one can drive the MPV with the electric motor alone, which provides a range of up to 106 km. In terms of charging, it takes 30 minutes with a DC charger, while 3.5 hours with an AC charger to charge the battery.

The back of the MPV

A standard 5-year or 150,000km car warranty (whichever comes first), is included with the M8. An additional 8-year or 150,000km guarantee also covers its magazine batteries, drive motor, and electric control systems. Customers who make reservations during the pre-sales phase will also receive a portable charging cord and two years of free scheduled maintenance, for a total value of RM3,800.
