Yes 5G is the latest telco to introduce upgrades to its existing offerings, this time bringing a very sizeable and welcome hotspot quota increase for its Infinite and Infinite Plus postpaid plans. The upgrade will see all subscribers of any of the plans getting a permanent 10GB increase to their monthly hotspot limit.

Announced just yesterday, the basic Infinite postpaid plan will now have 20GB of hotspot data, 50GB for the standard plan, 80GB for the premium plan, and 110GB for the ultra plan. The upgrade comes at no additional cost to users and will be updated automatically during your next bill cycle.

If you’re familiar with the Infinite plans from Yes 5G, they start from RM58 per month for the basic plan all the way to RM178 for the highest-tier ultra package. Each plan comes with unlimited calls as well as unlimited 5G and 4G data with no Fair Use Policy (FUP), making the offering properly “unlimited”, unlike similarly-marketed packages from other telcos.

The regular Infinite plans come with no contract whereas if you want a phone with your plan, you will have to subscribe to the company’s Infinite Plus plans instead. These are essentially the same as the Infinite plans but with a 36-month contract along with a free 5G smartphone, although what phone you receive depends on which tier you sign up for.

The postpaid hotspot upgrade comes just days after Yes 5G implemented a cap on 5G hotspot usage for its prepaid FT5G Unlimited plan. The unlimited data plan previously had a limit of 9GB for 4G hotspot data but no quota for using the hotspot function with a 5G connection, but the carrier changed this to a 12GB limit for hotspot usage with either connection.

Other telcos have also introduced free upgrades this month, with U Mobile and Hotlink giving users more data without increasing the price. On the other hand, Unifi Mobile slashed the FUP cap for its prepaid unlimited monthly pass from 100GB to 60GB.
