Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Survives Durability Test Relatively Unscathed

Beyond paint getting scratched off, anyway.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has officially been launched, and understandably, before you drop over five grand on a phone, you’d want to know if it is sturdy enough to serve you for a long time. As is usually the case when a flagship from the largest phone maker comes along, you can rely on JerryRigEverything to let you know. And overall, the South Korean tech giant flagship does pretty well.

The video starts with an introduction to the term greenwashing, or marketing that is intended to make a product seem more environmentally friendly than it actually is. Then we get to the usual scratch tests, where we see the same kinds of results we’ve seen on nearly every other phone. The screen starts scratching against Mohs scale 6 hardness. The paintjob on the sides gets scratched off easily using a knife, but the back basically survives unscathed. Also, this time the screen looks to be taking the heat from a lighter very well, also seemingly without sustaining any heat damage.

Then comes the bend test, where the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra shows of its structural integrity. Beyond very minor flexing without lasting deformity, the phone as a whole is, to quote the YouTuber himself, “rigid as a rock”. It does look like the front of the phone is just a little bit stiffer than the back, which makes sense as that is where the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is.

Samsung usually releases sturdy flagship devices, and it’s nice to see that the Galaxy S23 Ultra is no different. Which is probably what you want to see from a phone that starts from RM5699. You can watch the device going through the JerryRigEverything torture test by watching the video embedded above or by hitting the link below.
