Lenovo has unveiled the ThinkBook Plus Gen 3, the successor to the Gen 2 that was leaked back in November. Unlike its predecessors that sported an external e-ink display, the Gen 3 houses an 8-inch touch display next to the keyboard and has an integrated stylus.
But before we get into the secondary display, we should first break down the massive 17.3-inch primary IPS display. It has an ultra-wide 21:10 aspect ratio, 3072×1440 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 400 nits brightness, 100% P3 colour gamut, and Dolby Vision.
The 800×1280 secondary display is basically a built-in tablet which Lenovo has developed a lot of functionalities for to make it more than just a gimmick. It’s able to mirror your Android phone and can also be used as a notepad, a drawing board, use subtools from apps, and quick-launch your favourite apps.
It has a waterfall function that will extend apps from the main display to the secondary display, and will even automatically launch a calculator when you open a spreadsheet. The digital pen also uses ColourKing Plus technology for more accurate colour matching to edit photos, although some configurations may not include the stylus.
Under the hood, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 is powered by the latest 12th Gen Intel Core H-series CPUs, with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 1TB of SSD storage, and Intel Iris Xe graphics. Besides that, it also comes with a 69Whr battery which Lenovo claims gives the laptop an 11-hour battery life.
Other features include a 1080p infrared webcam with a physical shutter, a fingerprint reader integrated in the power-on button, and stereo Harman Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos. As for connectivity, it comes with Wi-Fi 6E support, Bluetooth 5.1, a single Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, HDMI, and a headphone jack.
The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 is expected to launch in May 2022 with a starting price of US$1399 (~RM5877). The local pricing hasn’t been revealed just yet, but we can expect it to be cheaper than the Gen 2, which starts at RM6754.
