Android 7.0 Nougat has started rolling out to other non-Nexus – and non-Pixel – phones lately, and Huawei is about to join in on the party. Turns out, many of the company’s latest devices are set to be updated to EMUI 5.0, which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat.
Not surprisingly, Huawei devices slated to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update include the Huawei P9 family, the Mate 8, as well as the Nova series. If you happen to own, say, the Huawei P8 instead, it appears it won’t be receiving the Nougat update for the time being.
Currently, only the Huawei Mate 9 is running on EMUI 5.0, and based on our review of the latest Mate device, the update brings with it quite a bit of improvements. These include the introduction of split-screen mode, a new notification panel design, as well as the ability to quickly switch between two apps by double tapping the menu button. Basically, native Nougat features.
Also, we’ve mentioned how EMUI 5.0’s notification system on the Mate 9 was odd in the sense that it would show up as numbers instead of app icons. Thankfully, a recent update on our unit of the Mate 9 has since rectified the issue.
Huawei’s EMUI 5.0 update is set to roll out to the Huawei P9 and Mate 8 first sometime in Q1 2017. The update would then start seeding to the P9 Plus, P9 Lite, as well as the Nova and Nova Plus.
