Just a few weeks back, we spotted the Sony Xperia X in SIRIM’s database. At the time, we were hoping that Sony Malaysia will be launching the new X series on our shores soon, and sure enough, we have received an official invite from the company regarding an upcoming launch event. Interestingly, Sony mentioned that there will be another “yet to be revealed device” at the launch event.

According to Sony Malaysia, the launch event will see the introduction of the Xperia X lineup in Malaysia. These include the X, the XA, and the aforementioned “yet to be revealed device.” Needless to say, we immediately thought of the Xperia X Performance – the flagship device in the lineup. However, there’s also the recently announced Xperia XA Ultra; either of these smartphones may be introduced at the upcoming launch event, although it’s worth noting that the latter will supposedly start shipping only in July.

It’s no mystery that the Xperia X series is sort of a new beginning for the Japanese company; after all, it is replacing Sony’s previous lineup of flagship devices, the Xperia Z. It has also been reported that the X lineup is replacing Sony’s other series; this may be the company’s attempt at streamlining – and simplify – its range of devices.

The Sony Xperia X series will be launched in Malaysia on 8 June next week. It will be interesting to see if the X Performance or the XA Ultra will be launched on that day along with the X and XA.
