Sony Allegedly Ending Xperia C & M Series, Focusing Solely on Xperia X Lineup

After confirming that the Xperia Z series will be replaced by the Xperia X lineup, it appears Sony will be doing the same to the Xperia C and M series. According to multiple sources, the company will be marketing all of its future smartphones under the Xperia X series.

According to Sony’s presentation slides, the company will be focusing on the Xperia X series from 2016 to 2018. What is of particular interest is the fact that there were no mentions of Sony’s other Xperia series; namely, the Xperia C and M lineup. On top of that, there will also be various promotional efforts on the Xperia X branding alone.

This latest move by Sony – if it turns out to be true – wouldn’t be very surprising. After all, the Xperia X series as it is already has three devices with different processors and price levels. This is quite a change over the Xperia Z5 family, which were all powered by the same processor.

Then again, until Sony officially confirms the end of the Xperia C and M series, it still remains to be seen if the Xperia X lineup will be the sole branding for the Japanese company’s future smartphones. After all, marketing devices with different specifications and target markets under a single series may be confusing to consumers.
