Casio has launched its Mudman GDG-B100 series of G-Shock watches, which consists of three colour options. As you’d expect from a series that’s aimed at hikers, and outdoors people in general, you get a pretty rugged watch case that measures in at 63.6 × 49.6 × 16.2 mm, and weighing 66g. Notebookcheck reports that case construction consists of carbon fibre-reinforced resin, as well as what is called Carbon Core Guard structure.
Adding to the rugged nature is mud resistance plus dust sealing, as well as a water resistance of up to 200m to go with that vaguely off-road vehicle look. Oddly enough, it doesn’t feature Casio’s Tough Solar charging tech, nor does it use rechargeable batteries. Instead, the Mudman GDG-B100 uses pretty conventional CR2032 batteries, with the watch rated to get two years of use out of these.
The report also notes that this is the first Mudman model to sport what Casio calls the Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) display. If you’re unfamiliar, it’s an LCD display that can stay readable even in bright sunlight while keeping power consumption low. Making it a little unique is its LED backlight, which is red instead of the usual white or blue, to let you maintain your adjusted night vision better.
As you may expect from a pretty modern watch, it comes with things like Smartphone Link for some light smartwatch-esque features. Complementing this are a small suite of fitness tracking features with the help of the built-in accelerometer. You can log up to 100 runs with as many as 140 laps each, with details on your distance, speed and pace being tracked. Overall, it’s pretty much like a replaceable battery version of the G-Squad GBD-H2000.
That being said, the Casio G-Shock Mudman GDG-B100 series – which consists of the black B100-1, the green 1A3 and the sand 1A5 – is not currently listed on Casio Malaysia’s website. In Japan though, all three are priced at JPY 38,500 (~RM996). For now, there’s no word on if these will be available locally.
