National carmaker Perodua has made an announcement, but it’s for something that’s not a car. In a strategic partnership with Bank Rakyat, the company announced the Credit Card-i, which is described as a credit card that is “specially designed to meet the needs of vehicle owners”. As such, the company says that it offers “exclusive benefits for automotive-related spending”.
This translates to five times reward points being awarded for spending related to fuel, EV charging, vehicle maintenance and takaful protection purchases. That being said, the carmaker says that cardholders will “enjoy complimentary takaful coverage for total outstanding balances of up to RM300,000, up to the age of 70, as well as RM1,000 of Khairat Kematian (Bereavement Benefit)”.

Other benefits for owning the Perodua-Bank Rakyat Credit Card-i include 0% overseas transaction fees and no annual fee. For points that cardholders have accumulated, these can be redeemed through the former’s P-Circle mobile app. The card itself comes in two designs, inspired by the QV-E as well as TIRA, “a character from the animation film featured on Perodua’s P-Circle mobile app”. For those interested, you can visit your nearest Perodua sales and service outlets or Bank Rakyat branches to find out more about the benefits and features of the card.

Perodua President and CEO Zainal Abidin Ahmad said, “this launch is a significant milestone for us as it marks the first time we have partnered with a banking institution to introduce a Credit Card-i. We will also be running a special campaign to encourage our customers to apply for the Credit Card-i through exclusive Perodua Package offers”. Similarly, Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff, Bank Rakyat Group CEO, said, “the strategic collaboration with Perodua reflects Bank Rakyat’s approach towards building an ecosystem that provides customers with more comprehensive value and rewards through the combined strengths of Islamic banking and the automotive industry”.
