There’s a new The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim mod in town, and it comes from a very unlikely source – Swedish furniture brand Ikea. The mod itself is as silly as it is real, adding a sentient shelf called Kallax Storageborn, after the Kallax series of shelves that the brand actually sells. As its official page on the Skyrim Creations page says, the game’s “true enemy was never Alduin. It was clutter”.
It’s a pretty involved mod as well, for both the player and Ikea to make it. To start, the sentient shelf is voiced by Matt Berry, who you may know from What We Do in the Shadows and The IT Crowd, among others. There’s also a quest for you to “build your very own Kallax Storageborn”. Once built, you also get a new Thu’um, or Dragon Shout, to summon the sentient shelf when it’s not designated your active companion.
Beyond the shelf itself, the mod also adds at least two items. One is called a Meatball Helmet, which should be self-explanatory if you’re familiar with Ikea. The other is called an Allenblade, which from the screenshots, is a massive Allen key with a plastic crossguard on it. It’s arguably even more fitting, especially if the mod involves using it as part of the process to assemble Kallax Storageborn to begin with.

The final cherry on the high-production-value cake is that the mod has a YouTube trailer. And this is where I find the greatest wrinkle in the whole mod, as the video shows the new Thu’um to be a pronunciation of the Ikea brand, but the wrong way. To be specific, it’s the way English speakers would overpronounce the brand, rather than simply the way it’s spelt. At any rate, you can watch the trailer for yourself, and download the mod for yourself by hitting the link below.
