With every tentpole videogame title, it’s safe to expect some sort of special edition hardware to come with it. It’s no different with Grand Theft Auto VI, as PlayStation has announced two different colour variants of the limited edition DualSense controller. Considering the game in question, it’s actually surprising that the company didn’t go all out with a special edition console, or at least the console covers, even if it’s not a first-party title.
That being said, the Grand Theft Auto VI Limited-Edition DualSense is plenty fancy on its own. As mentioned, there are two colour variants to this – black and white – but unlike most special edition DualSense controllers, these come with more than just a special coat of paint. Sure, on the touch pad you see the Roman numeral VI with palm trees within the number. But Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) says that the palm tree leaves you see on the controller grip are “molded directly into the controller, adding a unique tactile element”. From the images, it looks like the palm tree leaf shapes were carved out.
Then there’s the secondary colour on both variants of the Grand Theft Auto VI Limited-Edition DualSense. SIE says that this is a shimmering, colour-shifting finish “that brings together the hues of a Vice City sunset and the glow of neon lights”, so it may be more than just the bluish purple that the image implies. Either way, the colour does evoke quite a bit of nostalgia if you’ve played your fair share of GTA Vice City back in the day.
The Grand Theft Auto VI Limited-Edition DualSense will launch alongside the game on 19 November, with a price of RM419 locally. They will be available through participating retailers, and you can place a pre-order starting 10 September if you really want one.
