While Qualcomm has yet to officially confirm the name of its next generation Snapdragon processor, it has begun sharing some intricate details about its upcoming product. Namely, the speeds of its Oryon CPU cores.
As per Qualcomm’s official details, the next Snapdragon Oryon CPU cores will the first of its generation to reach speeds of up to 5GHz, spread across two Prime Cores and six P-Cores. “The new Oryon CPU is the first mobile CPU to reach 5GHz, and that doesn’t come from a process node alone. It comes from a fully custom design. We designed the microarchitecture, the implementation choices behind it, and the CPU subsystem around it, so every part is ours to tune. Tuning it all together is what allows us to reach 5GHz within the constraints of a mobile chipset.”
Qualcomm is also introducing a new Oryon FlexCache architecture. The architecture is designed to scale with the workload in question, and wherever the demand is. Basically, the larger the workload, the more FlexCache will instruct the Snapdragon Oryon cores to maintain and hold its activity, rather than taper off when a task outgrows the processing power demanded.
“With the next-generation premium mobile platform, we are introducing a new cache architecture to further tailor the CPU experience. Qualcomm Oryon FlexCache allows heterogeneous cores to access the same cache pool, with cache dynamically allocated based on workload.”
And of course, with the new FlexCache, the next generation Snapdragon processor gains access to a total of four functions, including Agentic AI, Gaming, a new level of multitasking, and video editing improvements.
