TikTok Shop recently announced a change to its commission policy. Starting next week, 1 September 2026, a 6% SST charge will apply to the Actual Shipping Fee for relevant shipping-related services charged to sellers. These include logistics services relating to the delivery, distribution, and transportation of goods, documents, or parcels via the platform. Notably, the charge may also apply to Unsuccessful Order Fees, which include the Forward Shipping Fee and the Return Shipping Fee.
As detailed in the announcement, the amount shown for the applicable shipping-related charges will include the 6% SST. The Seller Shipping Fee will be calculated after the charge as follows:
Seller Shipping Fee = Actual Shipping Fee (including SST, where applicable) – Platform Shipping Fee Discount – Customer Shipping Fee
Although the change will take effect next week, sellers have some time to prepare. According to the e-commerce platform, it will bear the 6% SST on behalf of sellers from 1 September until 6 September 2026. This is to support sellers during the transition period. As such, sellers will only be charged from 7 September 2026 onwards.
As to why the charge will apply to begin with, the TikTok Shop logistics entity is changing from Tokgistics Pte Ltd to TikTok Shop (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. As such, its services must adhere to the local tax requirements as outlined by the government. Worth noting that the SST charge relates to the shipping services, and not the actual goods sold.
Sellers should also bear in mind that the shipping fees are based on the order creation time, and not the delivery time. So, the SST will not be imposed on orders created this month, even if they are delivered in September.
Regardless, sellers can expect to see higher shipping fees as a result of this update. For instance, if the previous shipping cost amounted to RM3.00, the new cost would be RM3.18. And again, this is without accounting for additional fees, such as the Platform Support Fee. Introduced back in February, it applies a RM0.50 charge on successful orders.
