Going through the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) when you’re travelling can be quite tricky, especially if you’re not familiar with all the laws and regulations. To help ease this problem, the government agency has officially launched its new KIRA Chatbot and Live Chat facilities today on its official website.
The government body explained through a Facebook post that the AI assistant is here to make it easier for the public to obtain information and ask questions. As you might have expected, the new service is positioned in a way to help the public who are looking for references or wish to talk to a human officer online.
To access this chatbot, simply visit the website and click on the female customs officer on the lower right corner of the screen. This will open your typical text box where you can start interacting with the AI. So far in our visit, users can only discuss “Customs FAQ”, “Excise & Levy FAQs”, “SST FAQ”, and “Tourist Tax FAQ”. It can provide PDFs and file links for users to view and download.
Additionally, just below those buttons, visitors have the option to speak with an officer directly. However, that function is only available from Monday to Friday from 8AM to 5PM.
