Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has announced that Malaysians will be getting a total of 10GB of free mobile data in conjunction with the upcoming National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. This comes as part of the Rahmah National Day and Malaysia Day 2026 Rebate Incentive, with the Communications Ministry working together with the five major telcos – Maxis, CelcomDigi, TM, U Mobile and YES – to make it happen. This will benefit prepaid and postpaid users alike.
More specifically, Fahmi said that eligible Malaysian citizens will receive 5GB of data on National Day on 31 August, and the remaining 5GB on Malaysia Day on 16 September. He said the telcos will make their own announcements regarding the details involved, including on the redemption process and validity period. But at the time of writing, neither of the aforementioned participating telcos have made their respective announcements, be it on their websites or their official social media channels.
Berita Harian also cites the minister as saying that frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the initiative will also be uploaded to the Communications Ministry’s website in the near future. For now, neither the site nor the ministry’s official social media channels have been updated with said information.
According to the report, the announcement was made at the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2026 Celebration Sponsorship Contribution Presentation Ceremony. The total value of confirmed sponsorships to date is noted to be RM48.63 million, which breaks down into RM2.7 million in cash, and RM45.93 million in goods and services. This is an increase of 118% compared to the RM22.3 million in sponsorships from last year. Fahmi said that of the total sponsorship value, “50% is in the form of promotions, 30% in the form of goods to be given to visitors, and the remaining 20% is for the committee involved in organising HKHM 2026”.
