It’s been nearly a year since Samsung launched the Galaxy A17, and with the price hike announced last month, it’s about time for the successor model, the A18, to make an appearance. Sure enough, it did, but not in an official capacity yet, as it’s now part of the Geekbench benchmarking database. And as you’d expect, an appearance here means some performance-related items from its spec sheet have also been revealed.
The Samsung Galaxy A18 is listed as the SM-A185G and comes equipped with a MediaTek chipset designated MT6789, which is one of the two possible designations for the Helio G99. Beyond the chipset, the device is also listed as having 3.56GB of memory, which would translate to an on-paper specification of 4GB. Then there’s mention of Android 17, likely also with One UI 9.
From the limited information available in the Geekbench listing, it’s unclear whether this is the 4G or 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy A18. But a report from a couple of months ago pointed at a slightly different model, designated SM-A185F, as being the 4G model instead. This designation was spotted in what is claimed to be the company’s European servers, which also point to it using One UI 9 out of the box.
Separately, serial leakster @OnLeaks shared renders of the phone with UK-based outlet Smartphone Checker last month. These are claimed to be based on CAD data that Samsung shares with case makers ahead of a device’s launch, which should be pretty representative of the final product. Overall, the device looks pretty much like its predecessor model, from the U-shaped notch to the camera island at the back.
For now, there’s no word on when the Samsung Galaxy A18 will launch. For what it’s worth, the A17 launched in early September last year, which may be an indication as to when the A18 will debut.
