Apple may be preparing to open its second official retail store in Malaysia, with Putrajaya currently looking like the most likely location. The speculation comes after the company began advertising a sizeable number of retail positions through the career page on its official website, as well as on LinkedIn.
At the time of writing, Apple’s careers website shows 22 results when filtered for Putrajaya. The vacancies cover a wide range of retail functions, including Specialists, Operations Specialists, Technical Specialists, Technical Experts and Geniuses, alongside roles such as Pro, Creative and Genius Admin.
While the listings do not explicitly state that they are for a new Apple Store in Putrajaya, the advertised positions certainly makes that possibility worth considering. Unsurprisingly, the company itself has not made any public announcements about opening a second store in Malaysia.
What To Expect
Using its first store at The Exchange TRX as a reference, Apple Stores not only offer on-site sales of the company’s products and accessories, but also provide services such as item pick-ups, technical support, and product demonstrations. The company also occasionally hosts workshops and other activities, with The Forum space on the second floor of its TRX store serving as an example.
The TRX outlet also provides customers with access to Apple’s Genius Bar, where they can get assistance with technical issues, product setup and troubleshooting. Customers can likewise make use of Apple’s trade-in programme at the store, allowing eligible devices to be exchanged for credit towards a new purchase or an Apple Gift Card, depending on the circumstances.
For those looking to try out Apple’s products before making a purchase, the store has dedicated areas where customers can get hands-on with its range of devices, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and AirPods. This is complemented by the store’s Specialists, who can provide guidance on choosing and setting up products.
Of course, whether a potential Putrajaya outlet would offer the exact same range of services remains to be seen. However, given that Apple’s first Malaysian store provides these facilities alongside its retail operations, it would not be surprising if a second official outlet follows a similar format, or even offers more.
When Will It Open?
Nothing has been confirmed so far. However, Apple appears to have a habit of starting its retail recruitment considerably ahead of an actual store opening, with the company beginning to advertise positions for its first official Malaysian outlet in December 2022.
That store eventually opened at The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur on 22 June 2024, roughly a year and a half after the initial recruitment effort began. This means that even if the current vacancies are indeed related to a second Apple Store, we may still have quite a wait before the supposed Putrajaya outlet opens its doors.
