MBSB has recently added Samsung Wallet and Google Pay support for its Visa Debit Card-i. This enables customers to make contactless payments using eligible Android devices without needing to carry their physical card. The bank said the move reflects the growing adoption of digital payments in Malaysia, with electronic payment transactions rising 25% to 18.4 billion in 2025.
The new integration enables MBSB Bank Visa Debit Card-i users to add their cards to either digital wallet and make contactless payments at participating Visa merchants in Malaysia and overseas. Both Samsung Wallet and Google Pay can be accessed through the bank’s M Journey platform, which also serves as a hub for its payment, transfer and investment services.
Protected By Tokenisation
According to MBSB, transactions made through Samsung Wallet and Google Pay are protected by device-based authentication and tokenisation technology. Instead of exposing the user’s actual card details during a transaction, tokenisation replaces them with a unique digital identifier.
This means eligible Android users can make contactless payments while keeping their physical card details protected throughout the transaction. The feature can also be used when making payments at participating Visa merchants overseas, giving customers another option when travelling.
MBSB chief consumer banking officer Usman Ghouse said retail payment habits are evolving rapidly, making it increasingly important for banks to provide greater flexibility in how customers make payments. He added that customers are looking for payment methods that are simple and secure while being integrated into the devices they already use.
Limited ZUS Coffee Promo
To mark the launch, the bank is running its Samsung Wallet campaign from 18 June until 31 August 2026, with the promotion open to both new and existing MBSB Visa Debit Card-i cardholders. Customers who add their card to Samsung Wallet and make their first eligible payment can receive a free RM5 ZUS Coffee voucher.
However, the voucher is limited to the first 1,000 successful redemptions. Customers must first join the promotion through the Samsung Wallet app by opening the Promotions tab, selecting the campaign banner and accepting the relevant terms and conditions before making their qualifying payment.
MBSB is also giving customers the chance to win one of six Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Lite (Wi-Fi) tablets during the campaign. Customers who make a single eligible Samsung Wallet transaction of at least RM30 using their Visa Debit Card-i will receive one lucky draw entry.
Apple Pay Support Incoming
The launch of Samsung Wallet and Google Pay is not the end of MBSB’s digital payment expansion. According to New Straits Times, the bank has also announced plans to introduce Apple Pay in the coming months. This would extend the bank’s mobile payment support to customers using compatible iPhone and Apple Watch devices.
