Earlier in the month, we saw, held, and played around with the ROG Ally X 20th Anniversary Edition, or more simply referred to as the X 20. The handheld is, for lack of a better word, pure opulence. The only detail unknown to us at the time was local pricing, until now.
During a conversation with Asus earlier today, the representative we spoke to said that when the Ally X 20 comes into our country, fans can expect the handheld to retail upwards of RM5,000. How much more, however, is still a mystery, but that said, it is to be expected.
To provide some context, the standard ROG Xbox Ally X currently retails at an SRP of RM4,299, and at that price, gamers get an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme SoC, 24GB LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, 1TB of PCIe 4.0 storage, and a massive 80Wh battery. The display is a 7-inch IPS touch display with 120Hz refresh rate.
The Ally X 20 isn’t that much different, save for the larger 7.4-inch OLED panel that now greets you. In other words, Asus went the same route as Valve, who released the Steam Deck OLED about a year after the launch of its first handheld. That said, it still retains the same 120Hz refresh rate.
Of course, there are other changes, structurally as well as cosmetically. The joysticks are now Tunnel-magneto resistant (TMR), the D-Pad is rotatable and clickier, as are the face buttons; and the prongs are just “rubberised” for added grip.
At the end of the day, it’s clearly the OLED panel that is driving up the price of the Ally X 20, and we can’t say that we’re all that surprised.

In any case, the Asus rep still wasn’t able to provide a specific launch date, but did provide an extra bit of good news: when the Ally X 20 does arrive, Asus Malaysia doesn’t intend to sell it as a “bundle-only” with the 20th Anniversary-themed XREAL R1 glasses, as originally planned by its global marketing team, but on that note, the company says it will still offer consumers the option to purchase both products, but the XREAL R1 models just won’t be part of the 20th anniversary edition.
