AirAsia has announced a new feature called the “1x Zero Change Fee” for its MOVE app. As the name suggests, this allows for a one-time change to your flight date and time at no additional charge. Though the announcement does mention that this one-time waiver of flight change fees only applies to “AirAsia flights booked via the MOVE app or airasia.com”.

Of course, your ability to change your flight at absolutely no cost is not completely guaranteed. Granted, you won’t be charged for changing the time and date of your flight. That being the case, you’ll still have “to pay any fare differences, taxes or other applicable charges in line with standard flight change policies”. Despite this, the overall cost of the process will still be “significantly” reduced, according to the budget airline.

As part of the announcement, Chen Kok Ding, Head of Flights at AirAsia MOVE, said “in today’s travel landscape, where plans can change quickly and travellers expect greater control, we remain committed to delivering both flexibility and affordability. With “1x Zero Change Fee”, travellers can adjust their plans with greater ease when circumstances change”. He also added that the company will bring “more exclusive benefits to our MOVE users, all within one app”.

This feature looks to build on prior announced additions aimed at making the rearranging their flight plans cost less for customers. Last year, AirAsia MOVE announced what it calls “Easy Cancel”. This allowed users to receive a full refund when cancelling their trip bookings. Though this option must be toggled when initially booking the flight via the app. There’s also the choice of either 80% or 100% coverage. Opting into the feature itself also incurs a non-refundable fee. And if the booking consists of multiple flights, cancelling the trip will mean cancelling everything.
