The National Data Repository (NDR) is expected to begin operations next year, according to the Ministry of Digital. As initially announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) tabling back in July, it will serve as a centralised data bank to store and manage high-quality datasets from all ministries and government agencies.

Deputy Digital Minister Wilson Ugak Kumbong told the Dewan Rakyat today that the ministry is finalising the NDR’s implementation roadmap. The plan involves assessing the existing data ecosystem, setting governance policies, developing technical standards, and reviewing infrastructure and workforce readiness before establishing the platform’s technology framework.

Wilson explained that the NDR will act as the main hub for consolidating government data, allowing information to be shared securely and efficiently across systems. “The approach will ensure that government systems can share data securely and efficiently, thereby enhancing public trust in how information is managed,” he said.

By consolidating datasets from multiple ministries and agencies, the repository aims to strengthen evidence-based decision-making, improve policy planning, and enhance the overall quality of public service delivery. The NDR will also serve as a core component of the MyGOV application, the government’s main digital platform for accessing public services. Through integration with the NDR, the app will be able to retrieve verified data from various agencies, allowing it to automatically verify user eligibility and streamline aid applications for citizens.

To safeguard data integrity and privacy, Wilson said the government will implement strict security measures, including verified data sources and explicit user consent protocols. These efforts, he added, are intended to strengthen system interoperability, improve data protection, and reinforce public confidence in the government’s data management practices.
