GWM Malaysia has expanded its Tank 500 line-up with the unveiling of the Tank 500 HEV Black Edition variant. This seven-seater was launched in the local market earlier this year at the Malaysia Auto Show (MAS 2025).
As for this variant, it features updated exterior elements with a bold, darkened theme. The headlights, fog lights, and taillights are all finished in black for a more aggressive look.
Complementing these are a black front bumper garnish, black front grille, black window trim, black rear bumper protector, and sleek 20-inch black alloy wheels. The SUV also comes equipped with black electric side steps, black roof rails, and black emblems, completing its striking, all-black appearance.
Inside, the cabin retains the familiar 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a large 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Enhancing practicality and convenience, the SUV is also equipped with a 360-degree camera system featuring a transparent view function, automatic parking assist, and a soft-close tailgate.
Powering the SUV is a parallel hybrid system that pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 350 PS and 616 Nm through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Designed for off-road capability, it features front and rear electronic locking differentials, a mechanical centre locker, off-road cruise control, and a water-depth detection system. It also offers a “tank turn” function for tight manoeuvres and 11 selectable drive modes—four for on-road and seven for off-road use—allowing it to tackle diverse terrain and even wade through water up to 800 mm deep.
This Tank 500 Black Edition variant is priced at RM336,800, marking an RM8,000 increase over the base model. It comes with a comprehensive warranty package, including a lifetime warranty on the engine, transmission, and HEV system (exclusive to first-hand private owners), an eight-year/200,000 km power battery warranty, a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, and a five-year free maintenance package. Furthermore, early customers will receive an exclusive Limited Edition Premium Gift Set as a token of appreciation.
