Roblox is rolling out new safety measures aimed at protecting its younger users, following a series of lawsuits [1] [2] claiming the platform has not done enough to ensure a safe environment. In a recent post, the company outlined several significant policy updates that will be implemented over the coming months.

These adjustments come in the wake of mounting legal challenges, accusing Roblox of failing to adequately safeguard underage users from harmful or exploitative behaviour. In response, the company stressed that it consistently invests in moderation and safety features to prevent abuse.

“Any assertion that Roblox would intentionally put our users at risk of exploitation is simply untrue,” the company said in its statement. “No system is perfect and bad actors adapt to evade detection, including efforts to take users to other platforms, where safety standards and moderation practices may differ.”

One of the most notable changes involves Roblox’s “unrated experiences,” the term used for user-generated games that have not gone through content ratings. Previously, users aged 13 and above could access these games. Moving forward, access will be limited only to the developer of the experience or those directly collaborating on it.

The company is also tightening restrictions on “social hangout” experiences that depict private or adult-oriented settings. Games that feature bedrooms, bathrooms, clubs, or bars will now only be accessible to users aged 17 or older who have completed ID verification. Roblox says this is to further reduce the potential for inappropriate interactions within such environments.

To support these changes, Roblox says it is introducing a new automated tool that can detect violative instances where gameplay or user activity breaches the rules. If a server accumulates too many violations, it will be taken offline until creators work with the game’s team to resolve the issues and bring it back in line with the platform’s standards.
