U Mobile is assuring customers that its existing 5G services would not be impacted by its shareholders’ agreement (SHA) exit with Digital National Berhad (DNB). In a statement, the orange telco says it will maintain a 5G wholesale Access Agreement with the company, enabling it to continue offering commercial 5G services while deploying its own 5G network.

The same press release also confirmed U Mobile’s decision to divest its entire 100,000 shares in DNB for a total of RM100,000. As reported earlier, filings with Bursa Malaysia show that CelcomDigi, Maxis, and YTL Power (Yes 5G) will each acquire 33,333 shares, with the Ministry of Finance taking up one share.

U Mobile’s exit from the SHA marks a key step in its plans to roll out Malaysia’s second 5G network. The telco was selected by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for the task on 1 November 2024 and received an official award letter in late March 2025.

Looking ahead, U Mobile says it is committed to delivering enhanced connectivity and services through its upcoming “Next Gen 5G network”, which it aims to roll out to 80% of populated areas (CoPA) within 12 months of deployment. While a launch date has yet to be confirmed, its CTO Woon Ooi Yuen previously suggested that the second half of 2026 is a likely timeframe.
