Garmin has announced the arrival of the Tactical Edition of its Instinct 3 rugged smartwatch. Similar to the regular version, it comes in 45mm and 50mm options, but with the addition of a metal-reinforced bezel for enhanced durability.

Customers can choose between an AMOLED display or a solar charging model, but the former is limited to the 50mm size. Aside from the metal bezel, the Instinct 3 Tactical Edition also comes in a fibre-reinforced polymer case and a scratch-resistant display, giving it a MIL-STD 810 rating thermal and shock resistance with a water resistance of up to 100 metres.

As for the battery life, the AMOLED model can last up to 24 days on a single charge in smartwatch mode, while the solar charging model can get unlimited usage as long as it is exposed to the sun for three hours a day. For night-time use, it comes with a built-in green flashlight and night vision goggle mode as well as a strobe mode for signalling.
