You Can Turn Off TNG eWallet Promo Notifications Via A Hidden Menu

The process of getting to it is not a straightforward one, for whatever reason.

Notifications from e-wallet apps are appreciated when it tells you that a transaction just happened, but probably less so if it’s asking you to take part in the promo of the month or something. If you’ve had such an experience with the TNG eWallet app and have tried to turn those off to no avail, the good news is that you can turn specific notifications off. But unfortunately it’s not a straightforward affair.

As user u/lagendakurus shared in the r/Malaysia subreddit, the way to do this is to first turn off notifications for the app via your device’s system settings. You’ll then get a notification banner to “update your notification preferences” from within the app’s settings page. From here you’ll be presented with a list of the types of notifications you want to receive, though you can’t make customisations just yet. Instead, the TNG eWallet app will redirect you back to your system settings to get you to turn on notifications for the app before letting you turn each individual category on or off.

TNG eWallet notifications hidden menu

The redditor describes this as a hidden menu, though it’s not an unjustified description, simply because you don’t access the list of specific notifications through the settings menu. While the user provided screenshots on the workaround process on iOS, another replied that the same steps can be done on Android devices as well. We can also confirm that it works on Android, having accessed the custom notifications list the same way.

For what it’s worth, most other fintech apps would allow you to either completely turn off promotional notifications, or simply allow easier access to the complete list of which to turn on or off. If the option isn’t available via the usual methods, then it’s worth giving this workaround a try.
