As far as Chinese automotive brands go, the name JAC is probably not among the first that comes to mind. But the Hefei-based company has just launched its T9 pickup trucks in Malaysia, distributed via Evolelectric Motors. And it comes in two variants, a 2.0l diesel and an EV model, the latter claimed as the first 4×4 electric pickup truck in the country.

Starting with the latter, the electric JAC T9 features an 88 kWh LFP battery pack that provides a WLTP range of up to 340km at full charge. The dual motor setup gives it a power output of 220 kW and a peak torque of 516 Nm, as well as a top speed of 140 km/h. Specific charging rates were not provided, but the company claims that its battery can go from 15% to 80% in 45 minutes with DC charging, or from 15% to full in eight-and-a-half hours with AC charging. As for the diesel model of the JAC T9, the 2.0l engine is also turbocharged, delivering 125kW of power and 410Nm of torque between 1,500rpm and 2,500rpm.

While the two models of the JAC T9 use different sources of fuel, they provide similar if not identical features on the inside. This includes a 10.4-inch touch screen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch instrument cluster, and a 360-degree camera system. Then there’s the 50W wireless charger, a 220V multi-power socket, and air vents for your armrest to keep drinks cool. You also get four driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow, that last one being something that we’ll probably never need.

For visual trim, you can have the JAC T9 painted in red, black, grey silver or white, but the leather on the inside of the EV model comes only in black. The diesel model gets an additional brown leather colour, depending on the exterior colour. Said diesel model has an asking price of RM119,888, while the EV variant costs RM199,888. The former also comes with a 5-year warranty, while the latter has a more conditional 6-year or 200,000km coverage, whichever comes first.
