Back in December PlayStation announced that the PS5 will be getting themes based on previous generation consoles. On one hand, these themes were of limited availability, for whatever reason, and you can’t save them to use them forever. But on the other, the good news is that the company has gotten a positive enough response that it intends to bring these themes back in the future.
On its official X account, PlayStation says that “due to the positive response to these four themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead”. Which is the good news part of the story. The bad news is that “there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future”.
Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow.

This sort of matters because the account specifically mentions these PS5 themes are based on the first four generations fo the console. Not mentioned is the PS Vita, with its own relatively unique UI, unlike the PSP which shares one with the PS3.
Also left up in the air is when exactly these PS5 themes are returning. Though the bigger question is probably why they were not permanent in the first place.
