UPDATE (3:00 PM ): The QR code on the can that you can scan leads you to this website, with the first option leading to the AI camera that gives you that “glimpse into the future” thing. Your mileage may vary as for whether it’s actually something fun to mess around with.

ORIGINAL STORY (1:00 PM 14 September 2023):

AI-generated content is far from limited to just text and images, or even audio and video clips, it looks like. It also extends to soft drink flavours, as it turns out, as there is a new limited edition flavour that is “co-created with AI” that’s out and about. And it’s called the Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar.

According to the press release the company sent, the flavour is supposed to be “offering fans a refreshing taste and a glimpse of what the future could look like through the new AI-powered experience of Coca-Cola”. To this end, the company says that you can also scan the can of the Y3000 Zero Sugar to get access to the “Creations Hub” and use the “customised Y3000 AI lens to imagine what the would could look like in the future”.

No description was provided of the actual flavour of this special edition soft drink. Instead, the company says that “with the help of AI-powered technology, Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar imagines how a Coca-Cola from the future could taste and introduces innovative experiences to explore the future”.

While the press release says that the Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar “will be available around the world”, it also mentions availability in Malaysia to “follow suit in the upcoming months”. That being said, you can already get the special edition, AI-generated flavour on the brand’s official stores via Lazada and Shopee. We’ve yet to see it on shelves, but we will definitely be keeping an eye out now.
