It will reportedly be coming to the mobile app soon.

WhatsApp has added a long-awaited new feature on its platform, but it’s starting off the limited rollout through its web version. As reported by WABetaInfo, beta testers of WhatsApp Web can now edit sent messages, something that the company has allegedly been working on since last year.

The Meta-owned company opened up the option for users to join the beta programme on its web client just earlier this month. To opt in, you just need to link your account to WhatsApp Web, go into the settings, click on “Help”, and tick the box that says “Join the beta”.

Just like that, you are now able to edit any messages you send as long as they are sent from the web client. Of course, there are some limitations to the feature in order to prevent bad actors from abusing it, just like the edit feature on other messaging apps such as iMessage and Telegram.

As of now, WhatsApp is limiting the edit window to only 15 minutes after being sent. Within that timeframe, it seems there are no caps on how many times you can edit a message. If you miss that window, you could still delete it for everyone as the app extended the undo period to two days.

Additionally, unlike iMessage, WhatsApp won’t show the history of an edited message but instead, it will only label it with an “Edited” tag. Of course, the feature is still in beta so this could be subject to change when the stable version gets released in the future.

WABetaInfo claims that the feature is currently only available to some beta testers and will roll out more widely in the coming weeks, but we were able to access the edit function immediately after joining the web beta. Reportedly, the highly-coveted feature will also make its way to the mobile app “soon”.
