Spotify debuted a redesign during its Stream On event where it unveiled a dynamic interface that seems to be inspired by TikTok’s vertical scrolling style. The company says that the new interface was “built for deeper discovery and more meaningful connections between artists and fans.”
Users and subscribers of the app will get access to new vertically scrolling discovery feeds once you scroll down past the familiar personalised playlists and the new AI DJ feature. The new music feed will present you with personalised recommendations using full-screen videos from artists’ existing Canvas videos.
Similarly, you’ll also get recommendations with automatically generated previews when you scroll through the podcast and audiobook feeds. If you find something you like, you can save it to a playlist, follow the artist, share it, play from the start, or even tap on it to explore related stuff.
Previews across music, podcasts, and audiobooks will roll out for both premium and free users, but audiobook previews are only available in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Bringing it in line with Spotify’s music experience, users will be getting an autoplay for podcasts where a relevant episode will automatically play after your current podcast ends.
Another new tool in the Spotify arsenal is the new Smart Shuffle feature that adds personalised recommendations to match a user’s personal playlist. It will replace the existing Enhance feature and will be rolling out exclusively to premium users globally.
Last but not least, the streaming giant gave an update on its recently launched DJ feature, which uses AI to generate a pocket DJ that recommends music for you based on your taste. According to Spotify, users spend 25% of their time on the app with DJ and more than half who try it become repeat users, although its availability is limited to the US and Canada for now.
