HSBC Malaysia credit card owners are now able to utilize their cards for Apple Pay on their Apple devices.  According to the FAQ document [pdf] on the bank’s website, Apple Pay supports all credit cards issued by HSBC Malaysia regardless of whether they are Mastercard or Visa.

This also applies to both the conventional HSBC and the Islamic HSBC Amanah cards. Based on the information on its website, HSBC Malaysia currently offers customers a total of eight credit cards:

  • HSBC Advance Visa Platinum
  • HSBC Amanah MPower Visa
  • HSBC Amanah MPower Visa Platinum
  • HSBC Amanah Premier World Mastercard
  • HSBC Premier Travel Mastercard
  • HSBC Premier World Mastercard
  • HSBC Visa Platinum
  • HSBC Visa Signature

For those who are wondering whether Apple Pay is able to support the HSBC Everyday Global Visa debit card as well as its Premier and Advance equivalents, they were not mentioned in the bank’s website and FAQ document. However, they do explicitly say “credit cards” which means that the feature most probably does not accept these HSBC multi-currency debit cards.

To use your HSBC or HSBC Amanah credit cards for Apple Pay, you must first add them to the Wallet app. You can do so by tapping the + symbol on the top right section of the app, choose the Debit or Credit Card option, and follow the on-screen instructions.

In conjunction with the availability of the Apple Pay feature, HSBC Malaysia credit card customers will receive a cashback of RM30 when they performed at least five Apple Pay transactions with a minimum spend of RM50 per transaction. While this promo will last until 31 May 2023, there are only 4,000 units of cashback that are up for grabs though.

Prior to HSBC, other Malaysian banks that are already obtained Apple Pay support include AmBank, Maybank, and Standard Chartered Malaysia. Furthermore, we have also previously reported that CIMB Bank has aimed to deliver Apple Pay support for its customers by the second half of 2023.
