Among the new devices that Xiaomi officially launched for the local market last night included the Redmi Pad, its subsidiary brand’s first ever tablet product which initially debuted in India just hours prior. As revealed by the company, all three of its configurations are now on sale in Malaysia, with the entry model offered at a price below the RM 1,000 range.
Specifications of the Redmi Pad for the local market are no different from its debut in India. To recap, featured on the tablet is a 10.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1200 x 2000 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of 90 Hz, which makes it ideal for consuming media such as images and videos. This is further complemented by its onboard sound system, which consists of four Dolby Atmos tuned speakers.
Offered under the mid-range category, the Redmi Pad is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core chipset, along with a Mali G57 MC2 GPU, up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. There’s no cellular support, but it does come with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. Meanwhile, powering the tablet is an 8,000 mAh battery with 18 W fast charging.
As for imaging, the new slate is equipped with two 8 MP cameras that are situated on its front and back respectively. One thing worth noting is that the front-facing shooter offers a wider 105-degree field of view and has a FocusFrame feature which tracks the user’s movements during video calls.
The Redmi Pad is now available in Malaysia via official Xiaomi stores and authorised retailers nationwide, as well as the brand’s online stores on Shopee and Lazada. Pricing-wise, the 3 GB + 64 GB entry model is retailing for RM 899, the 4 GB + 128 GB at RM 999, while the top end 6 GB + 128 GB trim is priced at RM 1,099.
